Meet your instructor

Jackoby Clinton

Jackoby has been a professional singer for over 20 years. His journey began at 5 years old, when his grandmother, an immigrant from Iceland, passed along their family tradition of serving as a professional funeral singer – an Icelandic custom referred to as wailing. She ensured that Jackoby had the highest level of training in order to become a true Icelandic skáld —a term reserved for devoted poets and artists, and one that Jackoby wears with great honor.

Over the years of refining and performing his craft, Jackoby was able to evolve the teachings of his ancestors and create a unique and powerful style of singing. This style feeds from the most meaningful approaches of the ancient skálds, while engaging and strengthening modern singing technique. It is deeply connected to the physicality of emotion and the usage of the body as an instrument and not simply the vessel for one's voice.

Jackoby believes that the truest purpose of performance is connection. The landscape of modern singing and vocal work is made more meaningful through the understanding of one's self via what one creates. Therefore, Jackoby has built connection to others, to creative energy, and to fun into his lessons and workshops. His signature lesson is on the “Three Pillars of Singing” which refers to the three tools with which human voices utilize air.

Currently, Jackoby has been teaching professionally for 5 years and is employed as a singing instructor for several places of learning including LazuArts Entertainment. He has upwards of 30 students whom he is dedicated to seeing succeed and is always looking for new students so that he may help them grow in their connection to music. Jackoby combines his extensive expertise with vocal performance with his experience as a voice actor to help other voice actors find strength in their vocal instrument by expanding the use of their breath and body and helping them connect vocal performance to emotion and character work.
